Things I LOVE { Fall Photography Props}

Things I LOVE {Fall Photography Props}

This fall brings a whole new batch of fall props! Here are my favorites for this season!
(To see more info about these or to purchase just click the pictures or visit my shop! )

Upcycled Inspired Set
Image by : Abba Color Photography
This set has been inspired by the new Upcycled (items made from old clothing) trend! Instead of using old items to create new, I hand crochet these little outfits and patches from new yarn and add buttons for the cutest whimsical designs!

Chevron Swaddle Sacks

 Remember the HUGE boom of swaddle sacks earlier this year? Me too! They are EVERYWHERE- so they for sure needed an upgrade. The swaddle sacks offered in the shop are chevron and textured- for a whole new style for fall!

Baby Bear and Bonnet Set

 This cuddly set is my #1 fall prop! Precious newborns all snuggled up with little bears are the best- the bear bonnet to top it off! Some of my favorite unique colors to see in these sets are : Plum, Pumpkin and Sage!

Tassel Hat and Pants Set in Pumpkin, Gray and Bone

I can not believe how adorable this set turned out! It is one of the most popular color combinations this fall and with the unique stitches and tassel top it screams autumn.

Chevron Rompers

I adore these little chevron rompers! Each one has a unique color combination- the one pictured is plum, light country blue and coral.

Oh you crochet? Me too!

Beanie by ReiLynn Designs Photography Props

Hello again!
I just wanted to pop in to chat about something that is near and dear to me- crocheting and newborn photography. I talk with about 50 photographers a month, and while that isn't a lot compared to some prop creators out there, I like to keep relationships with photographers personal. We chat about things usually not related to work, but sometimes it does creep in there. I used to dread the words "Oh you crochet? Me too!" coming from the mouth of someone who gets to play and photograph newborns all day.
So wait, you get to be cozy with newborns AND yarn? No Fair.

Besides that, how do you find time? I totally get it though- props can be pricey- and taking 3-4 hours out of your day to whip one up is worth it..... right? Then it was put into perspective.

I asked one of my close photographer friends just that- her reply was so honest. "Well you take your own product images." She was right- my shop was full of HORRIBLE images, barely colored right and with my own joke of a logo. From that moment on, I decided to leave my images to the professionals. I box up a bunch of precious props and send them on their way- beautifully modeled images return. I also hired a graphic designer to fix my logo and watermark.

Now I would like to say that instead of taking the time to photograph my props, I work on marketing, shipping orders, e-mail lists and blog posts, but that would be a lie. I work on nothing. That is right. When is the last time you worked on nothing? I drink my coffee slow, I watch the sunrise, read a book for pleasure or go on a walk with the family. Let me tell you- it feels great. So good in fact, I am moving my shop to a new provider so they can work their amazing SEO magic.

There comes a time in business when you realize that you shouldn't do it all. Not that you can't- because you can be everyone in your business, but that you shouldn't. You are an expert of something- so own it! Be the absolute BEST at what you do- and let the people that are the best at what they do- work for you. Find a website designer for your website, let the local painting company paint your studio, and let the prop makers make your props.

If you are nervous about finding your own prop vendors- don't be :) I made up a list last week of my favorites that can be found HERE

Oh - and here is one of the HORRIBLE images that I took years ago. How embarrassing.

Things I LOVE {Photography Prop Vendors}

Hello again!
I want to introduce some of my favorite newborn photography prop vendors! I have had the pleasure of working with a lot of vendors- but these ones are my true favorites!  Their passion for crafting is evident in their work- from their unique designs to wonderful customer service. I love getting to know each one's style and celebrating in each ones successes.

Star Set & Blanket: ReiLynn Designs

I love everything in PJ's Crafting  Corner - from their Curved Bench to Wooden Big Blocks- but what I love the most is the Moon Prop. From the moment I saw it, I started designing a whole new line of star sets! You know a shop is great when their creations can inspire your own creative juices!

Dandified

Ella Crown: Dandified
Lavender Blanket: ReiLynn Designs

Dandified has so many precious props, from the knitted wraps and bonnets, to the sparkling crowns. Honestly, for months I silently stalked her shop wishing I could have these crowns just to have around the house as delicate decorations. Crazy I know.  Each crown is a little different- this one is named Ella (Oh my gosh- yes they are named- how adorable! I know!)

Little Peanuts

I started working with Little Peanuts early last year during a few of the Multi-Vendor RTS Events we were both in. She has the BEST banners! Each one has the cutest color combinations and patterns. Another huge plus- she is part of some of the best Ready to Ship Sales- which means you can always grab a last minute one!

Serendipity Backgrounds is another vendor I secretly (or not so secretly now) stalk. LOVE all the colors, patterns and textures and they also have the cutest names! This one is Walkway Blue! Oh! And I just found out that they are just a couple hours away from me :) How Fun!

Are you a prop vendor? Do you have a favorite prop vendor? Post your links in the comments! I want to stalk you too! :)

Pop of Color Course: An introduction to creative photography color palettes

Pop of Color Course

A few months ago ReiLynn Designs debuted the "Summer" Color Chart- it was full of beautiful, bright colors and I was SO excited to share it with everyone! After a few days- and critiques from my photography partners- I kept hearing " I love these colors... but....I'm not sure how to add those colors to my style." and that is never good. Adding color to your style isn't hard and may take your images to the next level.

So many people have a hard time creating pleasing color palettes with brighter colors so I have set out to help you!

Make sure to follow this blog- along with my mailing list for when our Pop of Color Course is underway:

Pop of Color Course Sign Up!

My Pop of Color Course will show you:
  • How to slowly add in touches of pleasing colors to your palettes
  • Working with the props you have for unique color combinations
  • Adding in brighter props that mom- or dad- may love but don't follow your color schemes
  • My favorite color inspirational boards
I'm asking that if you have a particular color you LOVE but find it hard to work with in images- comment with that color and I'll make sure to add it in the course :)

What types of photography do you specialize in?
     Newborn, Baby, Maternity

Where do you draw your passion and inspirations from?
     It is my family. I got the love to photography from my dad and my kids is what inspired me the most, the new kind of love that I experienced when they were born, the way they love me. The feeling I have every night when I see them sleeping piecefully in their beds; the way they make me proud with every new thing they learn and every inch they grow.... proud and sad in a way, `cause I a afraid that they are growing too fast, that I am missing too much, that I will not remember all the little things that I want to imprint in my memories. And of course there are many great photographers out there that inspire me with their work to create my way of art of photography as an art that conveys the world strongest emotion mother-child love, the family bonds....

What advise do you want to offer to a family who would love to book you?
     When choosing your newborn photographer you should always consider the style first. Does the art/photo style match your personal style? Are the photos in the portfolio talking to you, do they evoke any emotions or tell a story? A photo without emotion tends to be forgotten; a photo capturing emotions becomes heirloom. Always print your photos, get them on your walls and in the albums. Shared memories make a house feel like home.

Do you have any words of wisdom for fellow photographers?
     First: There is no bad or good style of photography. It is matter of taste and important is that it is you. If your final product looks pretty close to what you visualized in your head before you took that image you got it right.
Second: Be calm and confident when you work with the client. You should always know what you are doing and why however if you should find yourself in situation that makes you uncertain (and that happens to everybody time to time), the only one realizing that must be you.
